Maximilien Rubel , Communist militant and Marxologue French Austrian naturalized, born the October 10th 1905 and died the February 28th 1996.

Biography

Born in Galicie, Maximilien Rubel comes to Paris in 1931 to continue its academic works of philosophy and sociology. It devotes its thesis of doctorate to Karl Marx.

During the war, it is doubly clandestine, because of its Jewish origin, and by its militant activity. It takes part as from 1942 in the proletarian revolutionary Groupe, which deploys in particular its activity of Resistance by calls to insubordination distributed to the German soldiers. German-speaking, Rubel translates the leaflets. It leaves the GRP in 1945 however.

It founds in 1959 the review Etudes of marxology . It takes part in the " Group communist conseils" , which publishes from 1962 the Cahiers of discussion for the socialism of the councils .

Rubel becomes senior research worker to CNRS, and he is also member of the scientific advice of the Marx-Engels International foundation. He directed the edition of the texts of Marx to the editions of the Pleiad, translating many new texts into French.

Rubel considered that the " Marxist s" traditional went against the thought of Marx, which it called “thought marxienne”. He said: “ do not listen to the Marxists: read Marx ! ”.

In bond with its engagement anti-capitalist, Rubel supported the movement Féministe, and the movement ecologist (in particular antinuclear).
