Maximilien Gardel

Maximilien Gardel was born with Mannheim the December 18th 1741 and died in Paris the March 11th 1787.
Dancer and choreographer French, he is the son of Claude Gardel, Ballet master of the king Stanislas of Poland, and the older brother of Pierre Gardel.
It begins with the royal Académie from Music from Paris in 1759 and becomes soloist five years later. Sharing the roles of noble dancer with Gaëtan Vestris, Gardel will dissociate in 1772 from it: in the resumption of Castor and Pollux of Rameau, he dances without mask nor wig (what was hitherto unimaginable) not to be confused with his rival.
In 1773, it is however, with Jean Dauberval, the assistant of Vestris as ballet master then, in 1781, it will only take up this duty, succeeding Noverre.
With its death, in 1787, it is his/her brother Pierre who will succeed to him as ballet master.
