Maxim\' S

Maxim' S is a restaurant located at Paris, n° 3 Royal Rue created the April 7th 1893.

Created by Strong Maxime, coffee boy, in 1893, restoring it which will become one of most famous establishments of Paris is initially a small bar. Under the impulse of the actress Irma de Montigny, who attracts fashionable and elegant customers there, the place becomes a place of appointment appreciated of the All-Paris of the Belle Time. Eugene Cornuché repurchases the restaurant then. In 1900, it calls upon the artists of the school of Nancy and with Louis Marnez which redécore establishment with the style Art nouveau for the World Fair of Paris. The restaurant is used as framework with the third act of the merry Widow, Opérette of Franz Lehar, created in 1905.

In 1932, Octave Vaudable repurchases the restaurant. It selects its customers, imposes the port of the dress and supports accustomed, preferably famous the or fortunate ones. The customers of artists and personalities like the Beautiful Otéro, Edouard VII, Marcel Proust, Feydeau (which wrote to the Lady from Maxim' S ), Mistinguett, Sacha Guitry, Tristan Bernard or Cocteau contribute to sit the reputation of Maxim' S.

During the German Occupation, it becomes the privileged restaurant of the German officers. The marshal Goering dined there the June 28th 1940. After the Release, the great figures of the cinema of the time do not fail to be shown there. Onassis and the Callas find there Marlène Dietrich and Martine Carol. Á the end of the year fifty, of the workmen will discover in the benches of the louis of gold, the rings, diamonds and the rubies. It is in the Fifties, sixty and seventy that Maxim' S, under the direction of the son of Octave Vaudable, Louis, becomes the most famous restaurant of the world but also one of most expensive. With his Magguy wife, Louis Vaudable ensures the international repute of Maxim' S. In July 1979, the establishment is registered with the inventory of the Historic buildings.

In 1980, their son François Vaudable tries to continue the work of his family which, since nearly fifty years, ensured the expansion of the restaurant. But, more attracted by the scientific circle than by that of the Jet set, it sells Maxim' S with Pierre Cardin.

As from 1981, Cardin will develop its international aspect. It transforms the three floors of the building into a museum devoted to the Art nouveau, multiplies the spectacles and organizes evenings for the young people.

The sign was exported and one counts from now on seven restaurants Maxim' S: in Paris (famous Maxim' S of Paris ), Monte Carlo, Beijing, Geneva, Tokyo, Shanghai and Brussels.
