max Gallo (born the January 7th 1932 with Nice), is a writer, historian and politician French. He is member of the French Academy since the May 31st 2007, with the armchair n°24.

Writer with great success, it published a number of works impressing, often with strong pulling. Its Romance first , which it calls of the works of “policy-fiction”, were written under the pseudonym of max Laugham .

He excels in his style Littéraire which he calls of the “novel-History”, while working with the historical resources and by supplementing its writing in a romantic way by adding its personal experience and its feelings to it. He does not exert any more since 1994 of political office.

Biography

Its childhood

Max Gallo is immigrant wire of Italy NS. His/her father, originating in the Piedmont, had left the school after his certificate of studies at 11 years and was of self-educated nature. His/her mother was originating in the area of Parma. The Gallo family lived in Nice, and max saw its childhood through the Second world war. His/her father was then resistant, but had not put its entourage in the confidence. Max attends as a spectator with the Occupation and the release of Nice and saw with intensity all these events which will mark its imaginary and its desire for being confronted with the history. However his/her father, of a temperament of careful nature, directs max so that it makes technical studies and that he becomes then civil servant.

Its studies

He obtains initially a CAPE of mechanic-fitter, then a technical baccalaureat with the Lycée of Park-Imperial the. He enters the public office then as a technician to ORTF, working at a transmitting station close to Antibes. Simultaneously with its profession, it continues its studies of history. It gives up a few years after its post of technician to become supervisor, then substitute teacher with Chambéry. It obtains then the aggregation of history and becomes professor with the Lycée Masséna. It continues its studies until the Doctorat of history, and becomes teaching with the Université of Nice. In 1968 it becomes teaching with the Institut of political studies of Paris.

Journalism

Max Gallo was leader-writer of the Express train during 10 years in the Années 1970 before resigning. After its governmental experiment of the Years 1980, it directed some time the drafting of the daily newspaper the Morning of Paris . It currently takes part with Jean-Louis Bourlanges and Yves Michaud in the Sunday emission the public Spirit presented by Philippe Meyer, on the waves of France culture.

Political life

Militant and member of the Communist party until in 1956, his studies of stories will lead it to give up this way which he considers aberrant, while remaining of left orientation of until the medium of the Années 1990.

Just like in its works, the claim gaullist and Bonapartist belong to his political discourse. The March 13rd 2007, it announced its support for Nicolas Sarkozy with the presidential election. Moreover, the May 16th, at the time of the accession of Nicolas Sarkozy to the presidency of the Republic, it makes a speech at the time of a ceremony in front of the oaks of the Cascade of the Bois de Boulogne where 35 resistant had been shot the August 16th 1944.

French Academy

After a first unfruitful attempt the June 22nd 2000 with the armchair n°10 of Jean Guitton, where it collects only six votes with the first turn, it is elected on May 31st, 2007 with the French Academy with the previously occupied armchair n°24 by Jean-François Revel. On twenty-eight voters, it collects as of the first turn fifteen votes, against five for the journalist Claude Imbert and for “Bernard Henri” (not candidate).
