Maurus (bishop)
Maurus (? - March 5th 1118), also called Maur , is bishop of Cracow.
It arrives in Poland towards 1105, coming from a country of the south of the Europe (Italy? , Cyprus? , south of the France?) or of North Africa as its name suggests it. It is named bishop of Cracow towards 1110.
It makes draw up an inventory of the Bibliothèque Chapitre (about fifty volumes treating of Liturgie or Scolastique). It is the oldest catalog of this kind in the Slavic world . It also makes draw up an inventory of the Trésor S of the Cathédrale. It founds many Paroisse S. It continues the construction of the cathedral of the Wawel which had been started with Ladislas I {{er}} Hermann. The first part of work is completed in 1115 and it can bless the building of which there remains today only the Crypte holy Léonard.
He dies the March 5th 1118 and is buried under the crypt. Its tomb remains in the lapse of memory during more than eight centuries. Discovered at the beginning of the 20th century, it is open the October 14th 1938. One finds there, inter alia, a disc in Plomb bearing his name ( MAVRUS EPC ), the text of the Credo, some words on his death ( VIAM UNIVERSE CARNIS INGRESSUS EAST ) as well as the date of his death.
