Mauro Gandolfi
Mauro Gandolfi (Bologna, September 18th, 1764 - Bologna, January 4th, 1834) is a painter and an Italian engraver of the school bolonaise, the oldest son of seven brothers of the painter Gaetano Gandolfi, the member of a family of prolific painters.
Biography
After being itself flees and to be itself made enlisted at 16 years in the French Army it returns to the family home to Bologna in 1786.In 1791, it is then raises Accademia Clementina and collaborator of its Gaetano father.
In 1792, he Marie with Laura Zanetti, and in 1794, he becomes professor of the Accademia Clementina .
Eclectic artist opened with the “French” suggestions he is the author - on arrival of the Napoleonean troops in Bologna in 1796 - important fresco of the Glorification of the Republic Cispadana (transformed after the Restoration into Triumph of Pontificia Legation).
At the beginning of the century, it is directed towards engraving, while becoming a skilful technician.
In 1801, it leaves to Paris to specialize as engraver, and is implied in the work of reproduction by engraving of works of the French museums, published in 1803.
Turned over to Italy, he worked as engraver in Bologna, Florence for L. Bards and Milan for G. Vallardi and the Bettalli brothers.
In 1816, it arrives at New York (and in Philadelphia) where it publishes illustrations of the places which he visits. He discovers and will deplore the modest attitudes and prohibitionnists of the Americans for the study of naked in painting.
