Maurice of Savoy

Maurice of Savoy , born the January 10th 1593, died with Turin the October 4th 1657 was wire of Charles-Emmanuel Ier, duke of Savoy and prince de Piémont, and of Catherine Michelle of Spain.

It was, at 14 years, cardinal and bishop of Vercelli (1607). It became on June 4th 1627 abbot of the monastery of Abundance. In 1637, with died of his/her older brother Victor-Amédée Ier, it asserted with his/her brother Thomas the regency of the duchy against the widow Christine of France, but France supports it confirmed Christine as regent.

It renonça with the clergy in 1642 and became Prince d' Oneglia (1642), then marquis de Berzezio (1648).

He married in Turin the August 28th 1642 his niece Louise-Christine of Savoy (1629 † 1692), girl of Victor-Amédée Ier and Christine of France. They did not have children.
