Maurice Trintignant
Maurice Trintignant called Pétoulet (October 30th 1917 with Holy-Cecile-the-Vines - February 13rd 2005 with Nimes) is a pilot of French automobile race. He is pilot French to only run in Formule 1 between 1959 and 1964. He was the first French pilot of the history of Formula 1 to gain a Grand Prix of Formula 1 with the Grand Prix of Monaco the May 22nd 1955 at the wheel of his Ferrari 625
Biography
Maurice Trintignant is the small last of four wire of an owner of vineyards, all impassioned of automobile races which run on Bugatti.In 1933, whereas it is only 16 years old, his/her Louis brother dies in race with the Grand Prix of Picardy with Péronne. Maurice wants despite everything to become him also pilot of automobile race professional.
Pilot of automobile races
In 1938, 21 years old, it begins its career from pilot the April 10th by finishing 5th Grand Prix of Pau on Bugatti Type 51 of 2,3 liters cubic capacity (the model even with which his/her Louis brother killed himself).In 1939, it gains its second race, always over Bugatti, the Grand Prix of the Borders the May 28th with Chimay in Belgium.
Of 1947 with 1948, after having stopped the races during the Second world war, it runs successively with Bugatti, Amilcar, Delage then Simca-Gordini opposed to the pilots of legend of the time Jean-Pierre Wimille, Giuseppe Farina, Luigi Villoresi, Louis Chiron, Alberto Ascari,… In 1948, Maurice Trintignant is victim of an accident on its Gordini during the tests of the Grand Prix of Rheims. Amédée Gordini then calls upon an Argentinian beginner who has just arrived to Europe to replace it, Juan Manuel Fangio, which makes its beginnings on its car with the automobile Grand Prix of France to Rheims in 1948 and will become five times world champion of Formula 1 between 1951 and 1957.
The July 4th 1948, Maurice Trintignant is victim of a terrible accident to the automobile Grand Prix of Switzerland to the 4th turn after a departure at the head and whereas it is 4th. He is declared died clinically during 1min 15 then returns to the life after one week of coma. Trintignant is seriously wounded with spleen and lost four teeth. In 1949, it takes again the wheel on Simca-Gordini and gains the Circuit of the Ramparts to Angouleme in Poitou-Charentes.
Pilot of Formula 1
In 1950, it joined the elite of the pilots by taking share with the first editions of the championship of the world of Formula 1. Its first seasons are disappointing because of the unreliability of its Simca-Gordini which cannot compete with powerful the Alfa Romeo and Ferrari. It gains however some tests out-championship of the world in Geneva in 1950 and Albi in 1950.In 1954, Maurice Trintignant joined Ferrari with which it gains the 24 hours of Mans (associate with Juan-Froilan Gonzalez. (Mans 1954) as well as the Grand Prix of Buenos Aires 1954 (except championship of the world)
In 1955, Maurice Trintignant enters the legend of the French automobile race while becoming the first French pilot to gain a Grand Prix of the championship of the world of Formula 1 by asserting on the Grand Prix of Monaco the May 22nd 1955 at the wheel of his Ferrari (GP of Monaco 1955)
In 1956 it signs at Vanwall and pilot the Bugatti which, for its return to the competition, appears very disappointing. It returns to Ferrari as of 1957. (Maurice Trintignant and its Lancia Ferrari 801 with the Grand Prix of Monaco 1957)
In 1958 Rob Walker engages it in his stable which engages of the Cooper - Climax at the sides of Stirling Moss. It republishes its performance of 1955 by gaining the Grand Prix of Monaco a few weeks after the victory of its fellow-member Stirling Moss with the automobile Grand Prix of Argentina. In 1962, it is deeply marked by the accident of Moss with Goodwood at Easter. It does not have any more the heart to run within Rob Walker Racing and engages on a purely basis deprived with a BRM V8 into 1958,1963 and 1964 then on Aston Martin in 1960, Lotus in 1962 and Lola in 1963 always Formulates 1 of them.
Assessment long and beautiful career
In 1964, 47 years old, it completes its career in Formule 1 with its last points of championship to the Grand Prix of Germany on its BRM then its last race of Formula 1 with the Grand Prix of Monza. After being itself concentrated on the tests reserved for the sport scars for Ford France, it puts an end to its career
Maurice Trintignant took part in 82 Grand Prix of Formula 1 including 50 in company of Fangio. He takes down 2 victories and 10 podiums. Its best classifications with the championship are one 4th place in 1954 and 1955 (always accompanied by its small teddy bear fetish) It was 5th in 1959. Of at the end of 1959 to 1964, he was even the only French representative in this discipline. In 27 years of career, Trintignant took part in 324 departures, all confused disciplines. Its assessment is more than honourable with 44 successes, including 2 in Championship of the world of Formula 1, for only 124 abandonments. It lost 52 pilot comrades during his career.
Reprocess in the South
It is withdrawn with Vergèze to 20 km of Nimes in the Gard, where he becomes mayor of the commune of 1958 with 1964 and wine grower. (Enzo Ferrari calls it affectionately the " Merchant of plonk " in reference to its first steps as a wine grower).
He remakes some appearances in the Années 1970 and Années 1980 at the wheel of Simca 1000 rally with the Star Racing TEAM and in races history for the spectacle until in the Années 1990 to make revive the gloss of the races of the Années 1950. He sponsors the young pilot of his area of Avignon Jean Alesi and his nephew the actor Jean-Louis Trintignant who tests a time with the races of car as a professional pilot.
In 2005, Maurice Trintignant dies in the night of February 13rd at the hospital of Nimes at the 87 years age after having mainly lost the sight. (Maurice Trintignant)
