Maurice Riel
Maurice Riel (born the April 3rd 1922) C.P., C.R. is a former lawyer and politician who was President of the Senate of 1983 with 1984.
Biography
Maurice Riel was born the April 3rd 1922, having like distant relative Louis Riel. He studied the right and was admitted by the Barreau of Quebec in 1945. After having founded its own firm with Montreal, Riel worked in the international law, having many customers in France. In 1958, it joined the Conseil of the Queen and worked with the Banque of Canada of 1963 with 1969.In 1947, Riel joined the Liberal party of Canada, then the Senate in 1973, under the councils of the Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, and worked on the policy of Immigration and the foreign affairs, inter alia. The December 16th 1983, it is named President of the Senate but kept this place less than one year because of the victory of the left progressist-conservative at the time of the federal election 1984. It is then replaced by Guy Charbonneau.
Riel remained active with the Senate until its departure with the retirement in 1997.
