Maurice Joseph Princet (1871 - 1971), mathematician and Actuary, was an attentive witness of the adventure of the Cubisme.

“I attended with the birth of the cubism, his growth, his decline. Picasso was the obstetrician, Guillaume Apollinaire the midwife, Princet the godfather” , explains Maurice Vlaminck for it.

The contribution of Princet in the adventure of the cubism was also raised by Louis Vauxcelles and André Salmon, which made the initatior of the of it the Fourth dimension near the painters. However, as Jacob notes it, “there is very little mathematics in the cubism. It is certain that one could apply the arithmetic parabolas but by admitting that Princet had known them, Picasso would have been in sorrow to apply them well” .

Installed with Montmartre, accustomed Boat wash-house, it organizes with his Alice wife of the evenings where Apollinaire, Jacob and Picasso exchanges various reflections and devote themselves to the pleasure of the Opium and the Haschich. Become near to Jean Metzinger, it takes part then in the meetings of Puteaux. By its knowledge in mathematics, it is certainly of a intellectual support useful for the painters who, by destroying the prospect, materialize a space prone to incomprehension. It is undoubtedly at the origin of the bringing together of their works with the Theory of relativity of Einstein, which makes speak Apollinaire about " fourth dimension". It is probable that by announcing its knowledge to the painters, it specifies their research, in particular those of Picasso which, starting from 1912, makes cohabit several spaces (cubist and perspective). But Princet has certainly more affinities with the group of the Section of Gold, then impassioned exact sciences and which tests the need to justify scientifically the directives of the Cubisme
