Maurice Leblanc (born the November 11th 1864 with Rouen, France - died the November 6th 1941 with Perpignan, France) is an especially known French writer for his detective novels and of adventures, creator of the famous character of Arsène Lupin, the gentleman-burglar.

One can visit the house of Maurice Leblanc, with Étretat, in the Seine-Maritime. The needle of Étretat is used besides in the novel the Needle digs with Arsène Lupin.

Biography

The father of Maurice Leblanc was ship-owner. Orphan of mother, it was put at the world by the surgeon Achille Flaubert, brother of Gustave. His/her younger sister was the professional singer Georgette Leblanc. He refuses the career which his/her father intends to him in a factory of Carde S and “goes up to Paris” to write. He is initially Journaliste, then Romancier and Conteur ( Of the couples , a woman , Voici of the wings ). He wakes up the interest of Jules Renard and Alphonse Daudet, without public success. In 1901, it publishes Enthusiasm , autobiographical novel. He attends the great names of the literature in Paris: Stephan Mallarmé or Alphonse Allais.

In 1905, Pierre Laffitte, director of the monthly magazine I know all , orders a news to him on the model of the Raids of Ernest William Hornung: the Arrest of Arsene Lupin - name borrowed from the city council man of Paris Arsene Lopin. Two years later, Arsène Lupin is published in book. The dissatisfied exit of Arsene Lupin against Herlock Sholmes Conan Doyle, furious to see its detective Sherlock Holmes ridiculed. Maurice Leblanc took as a starting point the anarchist Marius Jacob, who made 150 burglings which were worth 23 years of prison to him.

Radical socialist and free-thinker, Leblanc embourgeoisa with the age and the First World War. He would have declared: “ Lupin, it is not me! ” Since 1910, it will try to kill its hero in 813 , but it ressuscite in the Stopper of crystal , the Eight Blows of the clock , the Countess of Cagliostro ,…

Its work inspired Gaston Leroux (Rouletabille), like Souvestre and Allain (Fantômas). An Association of the friends of Arsene Lupin was founded; she is chaired in 2004 per Lydie Dabirand. The exploits of Arsene Lupin proceeded in the capital and the Pays of Caux, which he knew well: collector of postcards, it had listed four hundred Manoir S between Le Havre, Rouen and Dieppe. The lupinophiles survey the places quoted in the intrigues of Leblanc in Normandy: Étretat and the treasure of kings de France, Tancarville, the underpass of Jumièges having to lead to the medieval treasure of the abbeys… The track of the seven abbeys of the Pays of Caux connected between them would draw the Grande Ourse and makes it possible to find star of Alcor.

Maurice Leblanc is buried with the Cimetière of Montparnasse.
