Maurice Leblanc (born the November 11th 1864 with Rouen, France - died the November 6th 1941 with Perpignan, France) is an especially known French writer for his detective novels and of adventures, creator of the famous character of Arsène Lupin, the gentleman-burglar.
One can visit the house of Maurice Leblanc, with Étretat, in the Seine-Maritime. The needle of Étretat is used besides in the novel the Needle digs with Arsène Lupin.
In 1905, Pierre Laffitte, director of the monthly magazine I know all , orders a news to him on the model of the Raids of Ernest William Hornung: the Arrest of Arsene Lupin - name borrowed from the city council man of Paris Arsene Lopin. Two years later, Arsène Lupin is published in book. The dissatisfied exit of Arsene Lupin against Herlock Sholmes Conan Doyle, furious to see its detective Sherlock Holmes ridiculed. Maurice Leblanc took as a starting point the anarchist Marius Jacob, who made 150 burglings which were worth 23 years of prison to him.
