Maurice Jean Auguste Girard
Maurice Jean Auguste Girard is a Entomologiste French, born the September 13rd 1822 with Givet, the Ardennes and dead the September 8th 1886 with Lion-on-Sea.
It enters to the National university in 1844. In 1847, it is named in Périgueux where it teaches the Physique. After having obtained its aggregation, it leaves to Dijon where it teaches there 1853 with 1873. It obtains during this time its license and its doctorate natural be-sciences with a thesis on the Étude on the free heat released by the invertebrate animals and in particular the insects .
Girard directs agricultural Insectology, treating newspaper of the useful insects… and the harmful insects… of 1867 with 1870. It makes appear more than 200 publications of which a book on François Péron, naturalist traveller with southern (1800-1804) the (J. - B. Baillière, Paris, 1856). It is also necessary to quote:
- Metamorphoses of the insects (Hatchet, Paris, 1866, republished in 1879).
- Catalog reasoned of the useful and harmful animals of France. I. Animal useful, their services and their conservation; II. Noxious animals, damage which they produce, means of destroying them (Hatchet, 1874, republished in 1878 and 1879).
- Natural history. Zoology (C. Delagrave, Paris, two volumes, 1883 - 1887).
- Phylloxéra of the vine, its organization, its manners, choice of the processes of destruction (Hatchet, Paris, 1878, republished in 1880 and 1883).
- Bees, bodies and functions, education and products, honey and wax (J. - B. Baillière and wire, Paris, republished in 1887 and 1890).
