Maurice Gourgues

Maurice Gourgues Maurice , born in the Gers in 1945, is type-setter, critical and French writer. Partially-sighted person of birth, it becomes definitively blind at the ten years age. Initially with Bordeaux at the Institute of the Young Blind men, he studies the piano and the harmony. He obtains a first price of trumpet to the academy of this city.

In Paris then, it has as Masters Claude Balif, Marcel Beaufils, Jean Langlais. Prize winner of the Higher National Academy of Music of Paris, it obtains a first price of musical analysis and a first price of esthetics of the music. He studies the composition with max Deutsch, disciple of Schönberg. He takes part in the seminar of ethno-musicology of the School of the High Studies. It is formed with the electroacoustic musics with the G.R.M. under the direction of Pierre Schaeffer. Incorporated music, it continues a career of teacher and type-setter. Its production explores the field of the musics between jazz and modern music. In the Seventies, it is one of the first, in France, to be interested thoroughly in the prolongation of the instrumental sound on line by electronic processes within the framework of the improvisation.
