Biography

Literary youth and beginnings

Maurice George Dantec is born with Grenoble on June 13rd 1959, within a communist family. In 1970, it enters to the college Romain-Roland d' Ivry-sur-Seine, in full “red” suburbs. Once the vat out of pocket, it begins from the modern studies of letters which it gives up to found the State of emergency rock groups, then Artifact. Musical adventures which it will combine with an use of originator-writer in publicity during the years 1980.

In 1991 it decides “to start to write seriously”, while working in an agency of telemarketing. The result is the red Siren . This novel halfway between the Whodunnit and the Roman-feuilleton gains Trophy 813 of the best detective novel. Two years later, it signs with the Roots of the evil , a second novel crossbred of whodunnit and Science-fiction which is worth to him to take down the Grand Prix of Imaginary and the Price Rosny Aîné in 1996. the Roots of the Evil sails between whodunnit, SF, thriller and test. Its public standpoint attracts many enmities to him.

Exile in Quebec

In 1994 and 1995 it goes in ex- Yugoslavia, in the capacity as “witness”. Wearied on France considered to be “too soft”, on Europe which he judges in full dislocation, wishing to move away from suburban urban violence, he decides to exile himself with Montreal. He emigrates definitively in Canada in 1998.

Novelist and essay writer? Not, writer

With the Theater of the operations, metaphysical newspaper and polemic , whose first volume is entitled Manuel survival in territory zero , published in 2000, Dantec delivers an autobiographical test of nature where it leaves free course to its reflections. In a reflexive attitude he wonders about his project: But what is this precisely what is producing in parallel this strange object, neither diary, neither critical of the topicality, neither critical test, neither philosophical lampoon, neither moral act of sabotage, nor act of faith, and yet a little all that at the same time (...). In 2001, Dantec delivers the continuation of its reflections in the second volume of the Théâtre of the operations : Laboratory of general catastrophe presented in the shape of a newspaper. Dantec took the practice to refer to the Théâtre of the operations under the abbreviation TdO .

Villa Vortex and “viral literature”

With Villa Vortex , the author returns in 2003 to the fiction. But the Theater of the Operations left its traces. The expression of its thought is from now on indissociable of its work of fiction what makes Villa Vortex the illustration of the viral writing that he preaches. A viral literature is necessary according to him to contaminate all the contemporary debate. It is perhaps there that it is necessary to seek the mechanisms of the polemic initiated in 2004 by certain media when Dantec lets publish email on the Web site of the Identity Bloc, which led its detractors to show it “to approach” the extreme right-hand side. Itself specifies that its point of view on America and Israel is opposed to that of the identity ones. Gallimard refuses to publish the last volume of sound Théâtre of the Operations , American Black Box . Frederic Beigbeder decides to publish it at Flammarion but quickly announces in Maurice Dantec that some parts of the third volume of the Théâtre of the Operations would be inevitably censured. Maurice G. Dantec refuses. It is finally Albin Michel which publishes Cosmos Incorporated with the re-entry arts person 2005 and American Black Box without censure as of February 2006.

From 2004 to 2006, Maurice Dantec takes part in the preserving review Egards and the Ring where he for example came to a conclusion for “not” with the referendum of May 29th about the constitution project European. In the two years space, it delivers a score of texts for the online press and the clipboard.

In 2006 leaves Grande Junction , continuation of Cosmos Incorporated and the re-entry arts person 2007 is marked by the exit of Artifact: Typewriters 1.0 .

In 1997, Maurice Dantec signs texts which he tells on the album Utopia group No One is Innocent. The same year it meets Richard Pinhas. Heldon does not exist officially any more, but the guitarist proposes in Dantec a kind of sudden start post-mortem, to which it invites also Norman Spinrad. Very quickly the project materializes in the form of reading in music of texts of the philosopher Gilles Deleuze, whose Pinhas was the pupil with beginning of the year 70. Dantec is not this time not a guest, but indeed active member of the group. Thus the project Schizotrope will be born, with an album with the title familiar of its readers: The Life and Death Off Marie Zorn . A round will follow.

Film adaptations

Olivier Megaton carries the red Siren to the screen in 2002.

Mathieu Kassovitz must carry Babylon Babies to the screen under the title Babylon A.D . The film is planned for August 2008.
