Maurice Cheeks

Maurice " Mo" Edward Cheeks (born the September 8th 1956, with Chicago, Illinois) is a former professional American player of Basket-ball. It is the 21e and current trainer of the Philadelphia 76ers in National Basketball Association, since its engagement the May 23rd 2005. He was the trainer of the Portland Trail Blazers since the beginning of the season 2001-02 until the March 2nd 2005, where he was laid off.

Biography

Cheeks evolved/moved with the Université West Texas A&M of 1974 with 1978. He was elected player of the " alMissouri Valley Conference" during three consecutive seasons. At its exit of the university, it was selected with the 36e row of the second tower of the draft 1978 NBA by the Philadelphia 76ers. Cheeks played 15 years as a leader of play (including 11 with the 76ers), participant in four All-Star Range. It helped the 76ers to join three Finales NBA in four years in the years 1980 (in 1980,1982 and 1983), including a championship in 1983.

In the history of the NBA, it is classified with the third rank of the interceptions and the 8th rank for the decisive master keys.

The April 25th 2003, at the time of a match of playoffs between the Portland cement Trail Blazers and the Dallas Mavericks, Cheeks helped a 13 year old young girl Natalie Gilbert to sing the national anthem. Whereas Gilbert had forgotten the words with " At the twilight' S last gleaming" , Cheeks came to its rescue and finished with it. Cheeks and Gilbert accepted a standing ovation at the end of the song. Portland cement lost against Mavericks this evening.
