Maurice Armand Chaper is a paleontologist and a geologist French, born the February 13rd 1834 with Dijon and died in 1896.

He is the son of the politician Achille Chaper (1795-1874) and of Antoinette Marie Henriette born Teisseire. He enters to the Polytechnic school in 1854 then to the School of the mines of Paris the following year, but does not obtain any diploma. He works as geologist and paleontologist in particular for the study on Panama Canal. He chairs the zoological Société of France. He takes part with Joseph Henri Ferdinand Douvillé (1846-1937) in a project of code of zoological Nomenclature.
