Maurice Bellonte , born the October 25th 1896 with Méru (Oise), died in Paris the January 14th 1984, was an aviator French. Associated with Dieudonné Costes it succeeded in 1930 on board Breguet XIX “Question mark” the first crossing of the Northern Atlantique of is in west.
Born from a father Engineer, Bellonte is interested very early in the technique. It makes the First World War in the Aviation but without controlling. It will be Mécanicien then navigator on the first air lines after the end of the Great War. In 1923, it meets the pilot Dieudonné Costes on the line Paris - London and they will fly much together. After a missed attempt at non-stop flight Paris New York in 1929, they beat both the record of distance with a flight Paris Tsitsikar (China) of 7925 km. This flight shows to them that Breguet XIX can cross the North Atlantic in the unfavourable direction (head winds) East-West. First Paris-New York is finally made a success of September 1st, th and 2nd 1930 after a flight of 37h14min.
Invited Air France in 1977, Maurice Bellonte will fly on Concorde during the first supersonic commercial flight Paris-New York, in 3:30 min. This year there, it publishes at Plon a book first Paris-New York where it tells the period since his meeting with Costes until the exploit of 1930.
The Breguet XIX Question mark is visible with the Musée of the air and space, with the Le Bourget.
Maurice Bellonte rests with the Parisian cemetery of Passy, not far from other celebrities of the world of aviation: Henri Farman, Dieudonné Costes and the airframe manufacturer Marcel Dassault.
