Maurice Abiven

Maurice Abiven (born the February 10th 1924 with Brest, Finistere - died the May 27th 2007 in Paris) was a French doctor, specialist in Internal medicine, which was one of the pioneers of the practice of the palliative Soins in France.

Biography

In 1987, it creates the first unit of palliative care French at the international hospital of the University residence in Paris, inaugurated in the presence of François Mitterrand, president of the Republic.

In 1989, it takes part in the foundation of the French company of accompaniment and palliative care (SFAP), of which it chairs the Board of directors of 1989 to 1993, and of which there remains highly skilled president.

He took part in 2000 in the group Paroles , circle of laic catholic intellectuals which published texts of reflection on social questions or nuns.

Maurice Abiven is deceased the May 27th 2007 at the 83 years age.
