Maurice-Paul-Emmanuel Sarrail
Maurice Paul Emmanuel Sarrail , born with Carcassonne the April 6th 1856 and died in Paris the March 23rd 1929, is a French soldier of the First World War.
Raise with Saint-Cyr military school 1875 with 1877, then at the University of war of 1883 with 1885, it orders the School of Saint-Maixent (February 1901 - February 1904) and becomes aide-de-camp of the Minister for the War 1900 - 1907. Devoted republican, associated with the general Andre, it is ordering military guard of the House of Commons, then directing of the Infantry to the ministry for the War of March 7th 1907 at March 27th 1911.
He becomes ordering 12 {{E}} division of infantry on March 27th 1911, then of the 4 {{E}} division of infantry the October 1913.
November 1913, it is named ordering 8 {{E}} army corps, then, on April 24th 1914, 6 {{E}} army corps, which it orders at the beginning of the hostilities and the battle of Vitron on August 22nd. August 30th, before the First battle of the Marne, it replaces the general Ruffey, dismissed by Joffre, with the head of the III {{E}} Armée.
Very critical towards the Joffre general, he is dismissed on July 22nd 1915. Extremely from its political connections, it receives as of on October 3rd a new station, that of the commander-in-chief of the French Army of the East. It orders it at the time of the offensive of Vardar in October 1915 and becomes commander-in-chief of the allied armies of the East on August 11th 1916.
It launches the offensive of Monastir in November 1916, but without much success. He plays a determining role by depositing the king Constantin in 1917, but he is replaced by the general Adolphe Guillaumat on December 14th of the same year.
He passes to the framework of reserve on April 6th 1918, but after the victory of the Cartel of the lefts in 1924, he is recalled to the in August activity by the government Herriot. He becomes High-Commissioner of the French Republic in Syria and commander-in-chief of the army of Raising on November 29th 1924, but it is recalled because in a its violent way to rectify the situation at the time of the revolt of the Druzes.
It is buried with the Invalides.
