Maureen Ann Tucker (known as Moe Tucker ) is an American musician born the August 26th 1944, with New York. " Moe" is particularly known to have been the threshing-machine of the group of Rock The Velvet Underground.

Within Velvet Underground

Moe Tucker learned how to play of the battery at the 19 years age. It joined Velvet Underground with the end of the year 1965 to replace with the foot raised Angus MacLise, the preceding percussionnist. Moe was then a friend of the little sister of the guitarist of the group, Sterling Morrison.

Its style is rather particular: she plays often upright, by using only one battery minimalist made up of Tom S, of a clear Caisse and a Grosse case. It also sometimes happens to him to sing on some songs, and to play of the low at the time of certain concerts.

Enclosure at the time of Loaded, the fourth album of the group, other musicians replace it. Among them, Billy Yule, brother of Doug, will also replace it in concert.

When it returns within the group, with the end of the year 1970, Lou Reed left the ship meanwhile. It continues nevertheless to follow Doug Yule, propelled new leader of Velvet Underground, and this same when Sterling Morrison throws sponge in its turn. With Walter Powers and Willie Alexander, two friends of Yule, which there remains group carries out an American round and its first round in Europe. But it is alone which in 1972, Yule will record Squeeze, the fifth and last album of the formation: Moe and the others were isolated group by their manager Steve Sesnick. The New Yorkean stops its musical career then and decides to be devoted to its family life.

Later, during the short reformation of Velvet Underground (1992 - 1993), it will take again its place with the battery, the sides of Lou Reed, John Cale and Sterling Morrison.

In solo

In the Years 1980 and 1990, Moe Tucker includes its musical activities. It publishes four albums studios (and two live) on which it plays of all the instruments. It invites Sterling Morrison regularly there, but also occasionally Lou Reed or John Cale. It takes part also a time in the " supergroupe" Paris 1942.

Moe Tucker, now installed in Georgia (the United States), then slowed down its personal production, even if it continues occasional collaborations (Half Japanese, Magnet, Lou Reed, John Cale, Charles Douglas, etc).
