Maureen Catherine Connolly Brinker (born the September 17th 1934 with San Diego, California - died the June 21st 1969 with Dallas, Texas) is an American player of Tennis .

Of a very large Precocity, it is the author in 1953 first Grand female Slam, before its career is not seen broken by a wound one year later.

Biography

Sporting child, Maureen Connoly impassions himself for the horsemanship. As his/her mother does not have the means of paying him her lessons, it turns very quickly to the Tennis.

Equipped with a natural force and a precision amazing for the time, it reveals its talents quickly: as of 1949, at fourteen years, it gains fifty six consecutive matches.

  • 1949 and 1950 : it is champion junior of the United States (less than eighteen years) at the same time into simple and double.

  • 1951 : at sixteen years, it becomes youngest finally gaining Internationaux of the United States by beating Shirley Fry. The American media make their whooping-cough immediately of it, calling it “Little Mo”.

  • 1952 : it gains Wimbledon and defends successfully its title with New York.

  • 1953 : it takes a new coach, Harry Hopman. After having taken down the International of Australia, it carries out the first Grand female Slam of the history of the Tennis.

  • 1954 : it still gains Roland-Garros and Wimbledon. The July 20th, two weeks only after its third London title , a truck shift while she walks to Cheval. Its damaged leg, it is seen obliged to put a term at its brilliant career: it is not twenty years old.

It Marie in 1955, has two children. With Dallas, it opens the Maureen Connolly Brinker Foundation , in order to promote the Tennis near the young people. One diagnoses a to him Cancer in 1966. She dies three years later.

Since 1969, it is member of the International Tennis Hall off Famed .
