Maultier
The Maultier is a German military vehicle employed during the Second world war, manufactured by Opel starting from 1942.
An artillery armoured tank
The massive use of the multiple Lance-roquettes by the Wehrmacht brought the deployment of the batteries of Nebelwerfer (launchers of proximity) to more close to the frontline. This weapon at the not very expensive cost and of a great effectiveness in the shootings of saturation of the battle field had a weak point however. The trail of smoke left by the combustion of the powder of the engine of the rocket at the time of its departure was a visible index for the shootings of contrebatteries of opposing artillery. Also, mobility became a major asset for the safeguard of the “makers of cloud”. As they were large consumers of projectiles, it was necessary to envisage a fast, cross-country vehicle and armoured tank to carry out the supply in ammunition under maximum security conditions.
Opel Maultier armor-plated derived from the launcher were transformed into vehicle of supply. This vehicle preserved the principal characteristics of the vehicle launcher.
