Maui

Maui is the second larger island of the Archipel of Hawaii with a surface of 1.883 km ². It belongs to the state of Hawaii, with the the United States, and forms the Comté of Maui with 3 other islands, Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe.
According to the tradition hawaiienne, the name of the island is related to the legend of Hawai' iloa, the Polynesian navigator which would have discovered the archipelago. The island would have been named according to one of wire of Hawai' iloa, which held to him even its name of Māui, a demigod hawaiien, who would have made leave the archipelago the sea. Maui is also called The Valley Isle (the island Vallée) according to the very fertile isthmus which separates its two volcanos, Haleakala and Mauna Kahalawai.
