Matti Vanhanen
Matti Taneli Vanhanen (November 4th 1955 -) is the Prime Minister of the Finland since the June 24th 2003. He is member of the Parti the Center (Kesk).
He was until in 2003 one of the 105 members of the Convention on the future of Europe charged to write the Traité establishing a Constitution for Europe, as a Finnish deputy.
The January 15th 2006, it is presented to the presidential election but arrives in third position with 18,6 % of the votes behind the former minister Sauli Niinistö who obtains 24,1 % and far behind the outgoing president Tarja Halonen who obtains 46,3 %. He announced his rallying with Niinistö at once.
He is with the apron in 2006 because its country takes the presidency of the Council of the European Union from July in December 2006.
Governmental career
The April 17th 2003, it is named Minister for Defense in the government directed by the president of Kesk Anneli Jäätteenmäki. 73 days after its taking up the duties, it is forced with the resignation after having recognized that it had lied during the electoral campaign of the legislative ones. Vanhanen is then indicated to replace it and is renewed the coalition between Kesk, the social democrat (SDP) and the Svenska Folkpartiet (SFP).The April 17th 2007 it is re-elected Prime Minister by the Finnish Parlement and forms a news coalition with the preserving (Kok), the green and the SFP.
