Matthew Geyt

Matthew Geyt , ( Matchi Ge into Norman), born in 1777 and died in 1849, is a Poète Normand.

Native of Saint-Hélier to Jersey, Matthew Geyt is the author of the first poetry printed in Jersey, going back to 1795. The subject of its poetries was the Politique. Though of quality, the poetry of Geyt is sometimes of a difficult reading because it tended to write phonetically, which allows, on the other hand, to see the evolution of the pronunciation of certain words since the time when it wrote.
