Matt Ka
The Ka subdues is the Haka which is generally used by the team of the All Blacks (national team of Rugby of New Zealand). This Haka of Te Rauparaha is undoubtedly most known of all the hakas.
Origins
It is told that, about 1820, the chief maori Te Rauparaha came to escape an enemy tribe, Ngati Tuwharetoa. The warriors of Ngati Tuwharetoa approached. Te Rauparaha heard already their incantations, when it met Te Wharerangi, chief of the area Rotoaira, and asked him its protection. Te Whareangi, initially hesitant, finally allowed You Rauparaha to be hidden in its " pit" will kumara; , a kind of pit where Māoris stored their will kumaras (sweet potatoes). The enemy tribe still approached and Te Rauparaha, although hidden at the bottom of the pit, was certain to be discovered and killed; he repeated himself low “I die, I die”.
When it realized that its enemies had not found it, Te Rauparaha started to shout " Ka Ora, Ka Ora! I live, I live! The “hairy” man who went to seek the sun it made shine again! The sun brille". (Te Rauparaha spoke about Te Wharerangi, which was famous for its very hairy body.)
Literally, " Upane" wants to say “steps”. Perhaps Te Rauparaha " shouted; upane" with each walk climbed during its return towards the large sun and freedom. Once left the pit, Te Rauparaha would have danced its Haka of joy in front of the two chiefs, Te Wharerangi and Te Rangikoaea.
