Matoury
Matoury is a common French, located in the department of the Guyana. With Rémire-Montjoly, this city constitutes the residential suburbs as well as a zone of activity of Cayenne.
It is on the territory of this commune that is located the airport of Rochambeau and the Port of Larivot.
Geography
History
The commune of Matoury belonged to the old district of Turn-In-The Isle, founded in 1656. A church will be there beat in 1662 and placed under the protection of Saint-Michel. In 1736 the Lamirande governor, owner of a beautiful property between Cayenne and Matoury began the digging of the Fouillée split connecting the Mahury and the River of Cayenne. This channel was to make the liason between Cayenne, Cabassou, Rémire-Montjoly and Roura. The Fouillée split was inaugurated by the temporary governor De Chesney. At the XIXe century, one built a fort with the confluence of the Fouillée split and Mahury: the strong Trio. The Governor Lemoine successor of Lamirande, made build a bridge on the Fouillée split to facilitate the way between Cayenne and Matoury.
October 15th 1879, the decree organizing the municipalities of Guyana envisages creation of a Island-Of-Cayenne commune & Turn-With-The Isle having for place chief the " borough of the Island of Cayenne". At the time of the elections of May 30th, 1880, the section of Turn-In-The Isle will elect six city council men, the commune had been born.
February 25th 1891, the commune of Turn-in-The Isle was named Matoury.
Economy
This residential commune of the Island of Cayenne. But also a vast zone of activity with the Port of Larivot, 9ère port of sins French specialized in the Crevette and of the Vivaneau and the zone of Collery activity which concentrates the large companies of the aggomeration Cayennaise. The port of Larivot is managed by the Chamber of commerce and of industry of Guyana.One also notes the presence on the commune of the Regional Palate General sports Georges Théolodade (the PROGT), place which gathers the most important demonstrations of Guyana.
It is the interface of reception of Guyana, with the airport of Rochambeau.
Town planning
The town planning of Matoury is very irregular. Apart from the borough of Matoury, one finds others lieus of town planning along the main roads which carry out towards Cayenne, Macouria or the airport of Rochambeau. The installation of large current equipment such as the regional Palate Omnisport Georges Théolade (PROGT), the College of Balata form small islands of town planning in the middle of dense zones of drills. One can also note the installation of the seat of the Communauté of communes of the Littoral Center on the commune of Matoury, near to the college of Balata.
Demography
Matoury belongs to the community of communes of the Littoral Center, it thus believes very quickly. The districts Balata and Cogneau developed in an anarchistic way, but the creation of new equipment and infrastructures (College of Balata, new seat community of communes of the Littoral Center with Balata, new barracks of the gendarmes with Cogneau, Trunk roads of skirting Cogneau/Matoury Bourg) will allow the reorganization of these districts.estimate of January 1st, 2007 *
