Mathieu Dumas (November 23rd 1753, Montpellier - October 16th 1837, Paris), general and administrator French.
Entered to the service at 15 years in the capacity as second lieutenant, in the Regiment of Medoc, appointed captain and assistance-of-camp of Rochambeau, it followed it in America.
He visited the Archipelago in 1784, to recognize the military state of the Raising.
Envoy with Amsterdam in 1787 to defend this city against the Prussian S. Assistance-of-camp of the Marshal of Broglie in 1789, and of Fayette after the Storming of the Bastille . Director of the deposit of the war in 1791, then ordering national guards of the province, was charged to bring back Louis XVI to Paris, after his arrest with Varennes.
Brigadier and ordering 3e' military division, it organized the 1st artillery company with horse which existed in France. Deputy with the legislative Parliament, director of the deposits of the plans of countryside during the Terror; appointed with the the Council of the Five hundred in 1795, it caused the establishment of the Councils of war to the armies.
Proscribed with the 18 fructidor, he lives taken refuge with Hamburg. Of return in France after the establishment of the Consulate, it organized the reserve army which made the conquest of the Italy, it was distinguished with the Passage from the Saint-Bernard, and was to advise of State to peace. It was him which proposed the creation of the Légion of honor; large Major general officer of the Legion and in 1803. Minister for the war with Naples, under Joseph Bonaparte, then large Marshal of the palate and high-ranking dignitary of the Order of Deux-Siciles.

During the Hundred Days it took again its old titles and others still that Napoleon i added, and was put to it in retirement, the September 4th 1816; named to advise State and chair committee of the war in 1819, it was striped ordinary service because of its vote in the elections of 1822; appointed of Paris in 1828, it signed the Adresse of the 221 in 1830.
During the revolution of 1830, it belonged to the commission of twelve deputies which, at the evening of the July 30th, went near the duke of Orleans to the Château of Neuilly in order to notify the deliberation to him calling it with the general lieutenancy of the kingdom. The November 19th 1831, it was created Pair France in the batch of thirty-six pars for life intended to allow the adoption the Upper House of the bill abolishing the Hérédité of peerage. He was also general inspector of the national guards of the kingdom and adviser of State in ordinary service.
He died in Paris, the October 17th 1837, 84 years old and rests with the Cimetière of the Martyrdom to Montmartre.
