Mathias Joseph Gerard de Rayneval
Mathias-Joseph Gerard de Rayneval (1736-1812) was a French diplomat.
Born with Masevaux (Haut-Rhin), of a parliamentary family, he was brother of Conrad Alexandre Gerard, like him diplomatic. He was twenty years first clerk with the Foreign affairs and had, like Plénipotentiaire with London, a great part with the commercial treaty concluded with England in 1786, said Traité Eden-Rayneval.
One owes him the Institutions with the Right of nature and people (1803 and 1832). He is the father of Maximilien Gerard, count de Rayneval, also diplomat.
