Mathematical association of Quebec
The mathematical association of Quebec (AMQ) was founded on June 5th, 1958. It is the greatest association devoted exclusively to mathematics with the Quebec. In 2005, its president is Jean-Marie De Koninck.
The founders of the AMQ are Maurice the Abbot, Louis Lemieux, Yvon Préfontaine and Normand Prescott. There were 125 members at the beginning, and half came religious communities.
Their organization is heiress of several erudite associations Canadian which followed one another since 1923: Company of mathematics of Quebec of Adrien Pouliot, Company of mathematics and astronomy of Canada and the Company of mathematics and physics of Montreal.
The AMQ organizes several mathematical camps in Quebec and organizes several mathematical contests on a provincial scale. It makes the promotion of the teaching of mathematics on all the levels of the Education system Québécois. The researchers associated with the AMQ founded the Annales mathematical sciences of Quebec .
Association gives several mathematical prices to each year: the Price Abel-Gauthier, the price Adrien-Pouliot, the Price Roland-Brossard and the Price Brother-Robert. The AMQ admits whoever which is interested by mathematics in Quebec, because she believes that the variety of its members makes his richness.
