The mathematical Société of France was founded in November 1872, its first president being Michel Chasles. It is one of oldest associations of Mathématicien S in the world.

The first article of its statutes, published in 1873 in its Bulletin announced: “It has as an aim the advance of sciences and the propagation of the studies of mathematics pure and applied. It contributes to it by its work and the publication of the memories of its members.”

Recognized public utility since 1888 and currently Association law of 1901, the company publishes several newspapers, of which the Gazette of the mathematicians and the Bulletin of the mathematical company of France , as well as collections of books of mathematics, like “Asterisk”. It is managed by a council of 24 elected members.
