Material of surfing

The material of surfing is composed of a board, a combination, and various accessories which make it possible to the surfers to adapt to the variable conditions imposed by the weather conditions.

The board

The board the oldest date of 1808 and measures approximately 5m and weighs more than 100 Kilos. Since, the technological advancements made it possible to improve considerably lightness of materials, their resistance, as well as the handiness of the board in the waves. According to time, preferences and in the manner of surfer, there exist different type of boards (called Shape):

the Fishes : The fishes are short, broad boards and with the tended rocker. They are boards sharp and rapid. As opposed to what their small size would let think, they are at ease in the small estival waves thanks to a large volume of the nose to the tail and a measured rocker.

Their behavior in the waves more consistent is also impressive. They are today broken up into several models according to the workshops and are the subject of various experiments.

Malibu : A compromise enters the longboards and the shortboards, but guard all the gasoline of the longboard: broad ends, before round-off, rocker constant and little pronocé.
Gun : Boards extrèmes intended for the large waves and which make it possible to start very early on the wave and to keep a maximum control of the trajectory under conditions where the insurance is of rigor. Combination

The practice of surfing requires a protection adapted according to the temperature of water. Shorty until the integral combination in Neoprene of which the thickness varies from 3.2 (3 mm for the vital parts and 2 mm for the remainder) or 7.5 for most sensitive to the cold, all depends on the temperature of water, the conditions weather (especially of the wind), of the resistance of the surfer, his style, its preferences.

Accessories

the Leash : cord which connects the leg of the surfer to his board in order to avoid the loss of this one in the event of fall, and the length is equal to the distance which separates the nose and the tail of the board.
the hood and the gloves neoprene: essential on the French coasts in winter and in spring, when water is in of below of 12 °.
the wax : coating which allows better an adherence on the board. It is paraffin.
the pad : plate which allows better an adherence on the board (often positioned on the back of the board to carry out figures such as the roller).
