Matavera

Matavera , also called Rangiatea, is one of the five districts of the island of Rarotonga in the Cook islands. Located at the North-East of the island, it forms part with the districts of Ngatangiia and Titikaveka, of the tribe of Takitumu. Nowadays, the district corresponds to the electoral constituency of the same name.

According to does the land Court, it consist of six or seven? Tapere that are Titama, Matavera, Nukumea, Pouara, Vaenga and Tupapa, this last being with horse on the district of Avarua.

It is chronologically about the fifth village rested by the missionaries of London Missionary Society in 1849 with approximately two kilometers in the north of that of Ngatangiia. Its foundation meets political needs being related to inclinations of independence of four Mataiapo of the valley compared to the cheffery of Pa Ariki, one of the two big bosses of Takitumu.
