Masters d\' Indian Wells
The Masters d' Indian Wells is a tournament of Tennis of ATP Tour created in 1987 taking the continuation of the Tournoi of Quinta (1981 - 1986). There exists since 1989 a female tournament of WTA in parallel: to see Open of Indian Wells.
This tournament which disputes in outside on hard surface named successively “Newsweek Champions Cup”, “Pile PEN Classic”, “Congoleum Classic” and today “Pacific Life Open”, sponsoring obliges. The usual name of the tournament remains however “Tennis Masters Series Indian Wells” ( Indian Wells TMS ) in English, as it is in particular the case on the official site of the ATP.
At the time of the first three editions (1987 - 1989), the tournament is a stage of the Grand Prix ATP . Since the installation of the Masters Series in 1990, the tournament belongs to this category of test.
The final is played in three gaining sets, except in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2007 (2 gaining sets).
