Mastering
Together of audio treatments applied to a piece of music before its marketing. Indeed, with leaving a session of mixing, pieces must be seen applying a series of corrections for its exploitation and its diffusion. It consists generally various operations:
* the edition of the sound * dynamic corrections (ex: compression, limitation) * spectral corrections (ex: equalization, compression multibandes) * the corrections spaciales (ex: widening of the sound image) * the addition of effects (reverberation…) *…
The Mastering which means in French control is the process which consists in transferring a recording on media which will be used for the series production.
It is the stage between the finalization of the mixing of recorded work and the pressing of the support him even, or the provision of the public via musical platforms on line. Concretely, this stage aims at calibrating all or part of the spectrum or dynamics of a musical work for tending to one made coherent during the listening of the various pieces composing the sound record.
This process is carried out in studios of mastering, equipped with specific material of very utmost precision making it possible not to denature recorded work in an original manner. The techniques of mastering are closely related to the engineer which practices them, each engineer being associated with a sound which is specific for him.
