Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb

The GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (shortened in English by MOAB , and that one can translate by “bomb of massive destruction by breath”) is a bends thermobaric of 9,5 ton S guided by GPS and by a Gyroscope. Being given its size, only a Transport aircraft can release it (a C-130 up to now).

In September 2007, the Russia tested the “Père of all the bombs”, bends allegedly four times more powerful.

History

It was tested for the first time the March 12th 2003.

It was built in the factory McAlester Army Ammunition Plant with 17 specimens.

It is derived from the Daisy Cutter (BLU-82/B), a bomb of approximately 7 tons using a mixture nitrated, and developed at the beginning to release from the landing strips in the Jungle for the Hélicoptère S, by the only breath of its explosion (from where the nickname of Daisy Cutter , in French “Reaper of daisy S”, given by GI S to this bomb), and used later during the war of the Gulf to destroy minefields, and in Afghanistan.
