Massacre of Hama

The massacre of Hama results from the repression of the capacity Syrien of Hafez el-Assad against the insurrectionists of the town of Hama in February 1982. One estimates between 10 and 25.000 the number of victims.

The February 2nd 1982, the population of Hama to majority sunnite carried out by 150 officers rises against the capacity in place following the arrest of Imams. The Syrian army retorts by besieging and bombarding 27 days lasting the city. It will be also devoted to massacres in the columns of refugees leaving the city, torturing and carrying out the proven or supposed opponents policy. These event or little were not relayed in the Western press, and did not raise indignation abroad because they were occulted by the closing of the country and the Guerre of Lebanon.
