Massacre of Glencoe

The Massacre of Glencoe was held in the valley of Glen Coe in Scotland, early in the morning of the February 13rd 1692, at the time of the Glorieuse Revolution and the Jacobitisme. The massacre began simultaneously in three places from Glen Coe - Invercoe , Inverrigan and Achacon - but the murders extended to all the valley during the escape of MacDonald. Thirty eight members of the Clan MacDonald of Glencoe were killed and forty others died of cold after the fire of their houses.

They were killed by 120 troops to whom they had granted their hospitality and which had been sent by advisers of the king Guillaume III of Orange to carry out them. After the revolt of the jacobites, Guillaume had granted his forgiveness to all the clans which would lend allegiance to him before January 1st 1692 but the chief of MacDonald did it later only 3 days.
