The massacre of the Gold Temple - also known under the name of operation Blue Star (May 31st 1984) - was an military operation controlled by the Indian government on the Temple of Gold of Amritsar to the Penjab, the principal temple of the Sikhisme.
The temple was occupied by an independence group of S sikhs ordered by Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. The Prime Minister Indira Gandhi ordered that it is evacuated after the failure of the negotiations. The occupants refused to withdraw themselves in the calm one and a shooting followed, which made 83 killed among the soldiers and 493 among the nationalist militants, as well as very many casualties.
The violation of their holy place was regarded as a major insult by certain Sikhs and involved the assassination of Indira Gandhi by its bodyguards sikhs.
