Maskinongé (municipality)

Maskinongé is a Municipalité Quebec (Canada) located in the regional Municipalité of county of Maskinongé in the administrative area of the Mauricie. Its inhabitants are of Maskinongeois and Maskinongeoises.

Municipal chronology

  • July 1st 1855: Constitution of the municipality of parish of Saint-Joseph-to-Maskinongé during the original cutting of the Quebec.
  • October 10th 1931: The urban part is detached and taken the name of municipality of village of Maskinongé .
  • August 27th 1991: A tornado of force 2 devastates the village of Maskinongé, leaving on its passage forty houses completely destroyed, and remains on kilometers. Approximately 15 people were wounded, but no death was to announce.
  • April 25th 2001: Maskinongé and Saint-Joseph-of-Maskinongé are amalgamated and become the municipality of Maskinongé .

Origin of the name

Maskinongé comes from the algonquin and means deformed Brochet. A pike species bears the name of besides maskinongé (Esox masquinongy)
