Mask Imbimba

The Masque Imbimba is originating in the ethnic group Ikota (cf) in the area of the Ogooué-Ivindo (Gabon).

Origin

Description

The mask presented above measures 52 cm height for 23 cm of width.

It is a facial surmounted tender wood mask of horns out of wooden pointed and arched to make it resemble a Antilope. The right-sided is bleached with the Kaolin, whereas the remainder is blackened by Calcination.

Use

This mask, which is carried exclusively by men Yesa or Békivil during a diurnal dance carried out in the court of the village, represents a male spirit.
