Mashteuiatsh
Mashteuiatsh (also called Point-Blue ) is a Indian Réserve Canadian of the Quebec. It is the only community Innu E of the Saguenay-Lake-Saint-Jean. It is established on western bank Lac Midsummer's Day. Traditionally, it is while referring instead of attachment which they occupied with their families that Ilnuatsh were identified. Thus, it is the name Pekuakamiulnuatsh (Ilnuatsh of Pekuakami) which indicates them still today.
Before becoming the site of the current reserve in 1856, Mashteuiatsh - which means “Where there is a point” - was already for Ilnuatsh a sector of passage and attended gathering. Called at the beginning by the name of Ouiatchouan, the community bears the name of Mashteuiatsh since 1985. The popular name of Point-Blue a long time also indicated the inhabited area of the reserve. The majority of the members of the first nation of Pekuakamiulnuatsh are established in the area of the Saguenay-Lake-Saint-Jean, mainly in the community of Mashteuiatsh.
