Masevaux

Masevaux ( German Masmünster in ) is a common French, located in the department of the Haut-Rhin and the area Alsace. Its inhabitants is called Masopolitains.

Geography

Masevaux with its 3.329 inhabitants is the chief town of a canton which counts 11.054 inhabitants. With the communes of Bourbach-le-Bas and Guewenheim, Canton of Thann, it is the pole of an urban unit of 12.793 inhabitants.

Located in mountainous area, to 23 km of Belfort, 16 km of Thann and 30 km of Mulhouse, Masevaux is opened with all the road main roads (NR 83) and highway (has 36).

Personalities related to the commune

Conrad Alexandre Gerard is certainly most famous Masopolitain. It was born in Masevaux on December 12th 1729, of a father originating in the the Vosges and in a native mother of Burnhaupt-le-Bas, Marie France Wetzel. He becomes the first ambassador of France near the the United States.
