Mary Wollstonecraft
Mary Wollstonecraft , born the April 27th 1759 with Spitalfields and dead the September 10th 1797 with London, is a teacher, feminist Woman of letters and English, especially known for its Pamphlet against the patriarchal company of its time, Défense of the women's rights .
Whereas in England, clash in favor reformists and adversaries of the French revolution, Wollstonecraft does not hesitate to bring closer the two doctrines in a lampoon published in 1792, Vindication off the Rights off Woman , translated into French the same year under the title of Défense of the women's rights . She opposes and brings closer the exploitation whose are victims the poorest women, constraints with paid work or to remunerate their sexual services, with the fate of the young women of small and middle class, private of all prospects professional by the prejudices and the defect for education, and reduced to make a beautiful party.
She marries in 1797 the philosopher William Godwin of which she has a girl on August 30th of the same year. The next September 10th, she dies, probably of a Fièvre puerpérale. The child will be known under the name of Mary Shelley (1797-1851). Marry of the poet Shelley, it is the auteure of famous the fantastic Roman Frankenstein or modern Prométhée .
In France, Mary Wollstonecraft will quickly be forgotten until its redécouverte by Flora Tristan in 1840.
