Mary Pickford

Mary Pickford , of its true name Gladys Louise Smith (born the April 8th 1892 with Toronto, deceased with Santa Monica the May 29th 1979), is a producing Actrice and Canadian businesswoman .

Gone up as of the six years age on the boards, small Mary Pickford was noticed by David Wark Griffith which made of it a dumb film star in 1910. Called “the small one been engaged of promised in marriage America” or “the small one of the world”, it allured the public by his youthful grace and primesautière in films like a poor rich little girl (1917) or the Small Lord Fauntleroy (1921).

In 1919, Mary Pickford was one of the founders of the Associated Artists ( United Artists ), with Griffith, Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks, which she married in 1920. It is also it which made come Ernst Lubitsch to Hollywood.

The end of the silent film was fatal with its career of actress, after her participation in 4 talking films. She will have played in 236 films, in 27 years of career. One also remembers it like having been important producing, scenario writer and metteure in scene, like cofondatrice of the studios United Artists , the Academy off Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and of the cinematographic community called “ Hollywood ”.

before the 30 years age, it had united with Douglas Fairbanks, Charlie Chaplin and D.W. Griffith to form a production company which had an enormous success: United Artists ;
entered the cinema world very right at the time when the film becomes a popular form of mass media , it included/understood from the start cinema industry and seldom made a bad decision;
even if she had attended the school only six or seven months, Mary Pickford was the most astute businesswoman of Hollywood;
ironically, until the age of 35 or 40 years, it made its fortune in a role of child, that the public always preferred of it: that of small American models, a determined little girl, with the fair loops, which defended the poor and the underprivileged ones.
