Marty McSorley

Marty James McSorley (born on May 18th, 1963 with Hamiliton in the province of the Ontario with the Canada) is a former player and professional trainer of Hockey. He also played in films of hockey.

Career in club

It begins its career in the league junior from the Ontario Hockey League for bulldozers of Belleville in 1981. Two seasons later, it signs as a free agent with the Penguins de Pittsburgh. Penguins make it play as well in the principal team as in the frankness associated American Ligue from hockey, the Skipjacks of Baltimore.

At the end of three seasons, in company of Tim Hrynewich and Craig Provided, it joined the Oilers d' Edmonton in return of Gilles Meloche. The trainer and managing director of Oilers, Glen Sather, considered whereas it did not have enough protection around his players high-speed motorboats Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri and Mark Messier. With Oilers, it twice gains the Coupe Stanley in 1987 and 1988. It is used then as bodyguard of Gretzky not hesitating to fight to defend the high-speed motorboat of Oilers.

In the middle of the summer 1988, Gretzky is sold with the Kings of Los Angeles for the sum of 15 million American dollars within an exchange programmed by the owner of Oilers (Peter Pocklington) anxious to find finances for personal ends. Disgusted from this transfer, Gretzky will negotiate with the president of Kings, Bruce McNall, the transfer of McSorley moreover. In 1991, it gains with Theoren Fleury Flames of Calgary the Trophée plus-moins of the LNH.

In 1993, Kings reach the finale of the Stanley Cut against the Canadian of Montreal. At the time of the 2nd match of the finale, whereas Kings leads match 2 to 1, Jacques Demers, the trainer of the Canadians, requires of official to measure the stick of McSorley, which proves to have a too pronounced and illegal curve. McSorley bails out two minutes of punishment; the Canadians equalizes the mark and gains this match in period of prolongation, which will contribute to the loss of Kings. McSorley will have accumulated ten all the same points during the eliminatory Séries.

Following this season, it turns over to briefly play for Penguins before turning over with Kings for three seasons. It passes the end of its career between several franknesses from the LNH: the Rangers of New York, the Sharks de San Jose, a new passage with Oilers and finally with the Bruins of Boston.

At the time of this passage at Bruins, in 1999-00, it strikes Donald Brashear with his stick whereas there remain a few moments in the meeting in Bruins and Canucks. Brashear loses conscience then and will remain long enough in the coma caused by the shock of its head on the ice. The leaders of the LNH decides to suspend McSorley for the remainder of the season. In October 2000, a jury condemns the player for armed aggression and condemns it to 18 months of prisons with Sursis. After this verdict, the LNH decides to condemn the player for one year more. Once its achieved sorrow, it will try to return to the play but will play never again in the LNH. With: 3381 minutes of penalty, it is in 2007, the fourth player the more penalized of the history of the LNH - behind Tiger Williams and: 3966 minutes.

In 2002-03 and 2003-04, he is the trainer as a chief of the Falcons de Springfield in the American Ligue of hockey.
