Martini is also the name of famous a Cocktail composed of Gin and white Vermouth dry (such as that sold under the name of Martini Extra Dry by Martini & Rossi). It contains a vermouth amount for 5 or 6 amounts of gin, and is often accompanied by a piece of lemon peel or a green olive. It would seem that the cocktail draws its name from Martini distilling.
To avoid confusion, the cocktail is sometimes called “Dry Martini” in France. It should however be known that in English, “Dry Martini”, or martini dry, indicates a martini where the vermouth amount is tiny.
