Martine Carol
Martine Carol , of her true name Marie-Louise Jeanne Nicole Mourer , French actress, born the May 16th 1920 with Saint-Mandé, the Valley-of-Marne, deceased the February 6th 1967 with Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Beginnings
Its meeting with the actors Micheline Presle, star rising of the French cinema, and Andre Luguet, ex-young person first of the French and American cinema, will be the first call of the destiny. On the councils of Andre Luguet, it starts a career with the theater, while following the courses of Robert Manuel and Rene Simon. It begins with the Theater from the Rebirth in the Road from the tobacco , at the sides of Mouloudji, and in Phèdre , under the name of Maryse Arley. During the Occupation, like much of French actors, it turns of films financed by the German firm Continental, directed by Alfred Greven. Noticed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, it appears in the cat , adapted of a news of Colette, film which will never be distributed. In 1941, it appears in the last of the six , at the sides of Pierre Fresnay and Jean Tissier, then in the unknown ones in the house , with Raimu. In 1943, Martine Carol (the pseudonym was found to him by François Périer) turns the farm to the wolves , at the sides of François Périer and Paul Meurisse. One regularly finds it from now on with the cinema where its beauty makes wonder, in particular in Miroir (1947) with Jean Gabin, the lovers of Vérone (1948) with Pierre Brasseur, or I like to only you (1949) with the singer Luis Mariano.
Caroline cherished
Its name will be associated for a long time to the character who returned it celebrates, Caroline cherished , adapted novels of Cécil the St. Lawrence. Martine Carol incarnates there an aristocrat whom charms and determined who survives the Révolution and takes his revenge under the Empire, while using largely of her talents of seductresses. In 1954, it marries the French director Christian-Jaque which holds roles with the measurement of its figure of dream and " for him; Sex-symbol " typical of the 50 qu years ' it became.
One then sees it in Madam of Barry , Nana , Nathalie . She works with Sacha Guitry (for one of the innumerable small roles of If Versailles to me were told , 1953), max Ophuls ( Lola Montès , 1955), Abel Gance (Austerlitz, 1959), Rene Clair, Terence Young, Vittorio De Sica, etc She gives the counterpart to Gerard Philippe, Raf Vallone, Charles Boyer, Vittorio Gassman etc the film Lola Montès attracts finally the favor to him of criticism, which had never been tender with it before, reproaching him for being “a bad actress”. Been sulky by the public, this film recalled the life of a courtesan déchue and ruined, who exhibait herself in a circus to be able to survive. A premonitory interpretation…
One time end
In the Sixties, indeed, its notoriety starts to be beaten in breach by rising star, Brigitte Bardot, as emblematic of the Sixties as Martine is fifties. In the same way, the cinema which made its glory, fact of large frescos to figure as impeccable as artificial, is assassinated by the New wave and its nonchalant naturalism. Very depressed, it stuffs drugs and is essential Draconian reducing treatments. After a four years interruption and a new marriage with an English business man, it makes his last film, the Hell is empty (1966). Little time after turning, it is found died by her husband the February 6th 1967, with 2:30 of the morning, in its room with the Hotel of Paris (Monte Carlo). An heart attack will be diagnosed. Rumors of suicide circulated, without finding confirmation. A fine tragedy for an actress who marked her time and which occupies, since, a special place in the history of the cinema.
Sentimental with excess, it was unhappy in love. Thus, when the actor Georges Marchal, its first lover, preferred Dany Robin to him, it was thrown in the the Seine, the April 10th 1947, with the Pont of Alma, after having absorbed alcohol and Médicaments. It is a taxi driver who saved it drowning.
