Biograhie
Wire of the Hungarian sculptor Pierre Szekely, Martin Szekely follows the courses of the École Swell and the École Estienne and is graduate in engraving. It starts to be pointed out of the public with the long chair pi in 1982. Since, it multiplies at the same time collaborations with editors of design like the Neotu Gallery, the Kreo Gallery or Domeau & Pérès, and with industrialists like Perrier, Heineken, JCDecaux or Électricité de France.
Not very known the general public, some of the objects which it drew however touched very many people like Perrier glass manufactured to 12 million specimens. Its ultra-confidential creations, are on the other hand, very appraisals of the collectors of contemporary art.
It is devoted Créateur of the Year of the Living room of the Piece of furniture of Paris in 1987, and is honoured in 1999 with the Price Alfred Dunhill “remarkable Man with the Year”. These creations belong to the collections of several important museums like the Musée of decorative Arts, the MoMA or the Mudam.
Its style
The singularity of the work of Martin Szekely is to seek more the possible simple expression of the object, while answering the functional priorities: “My wish is to create commonplaces, with the universal direction. I.e. comprehensible products by all What interests me, it is to create objects which are not images and which invite with use. They are forgotten, because they are never conclusive. ”
Thus, in connection with its creation Of the racks , he declares “the rack has his own law, dictated by the functional specificity of a mode of assembly and not by a choice of composition subjected to esthetic codes. ” It results a simple and pure design from it, a design which is erased behind the function.
