Martin Kušej
Martin Kušej (born the May 14th 1961 with Klagenfurt) is a Austrian Director .
Biography
Formed with Graz, initially in language and German literature, then in setting in scene, Martin Kušej begins his career as an assistant with Salzburg and Ljubljana before signing its own achievements as from 1987. In 1990, it founds the group “My friend Martin” with the decorator Martin Zehetgruber and the playwright Sylvia Brandl, working in particular for the Steirischer Herbst Festival of Graz and the Mittelfest Festival of Cividale, in Italy.
Invited by the principal German and Austrian scenes (Residenztheater of Munich, Volksbühne of Berlin, Thalia Theater and Deutsches Schauspielhaus of Hamburg, Burgtheater of Vienna), it as well puts in scene the traditional ones like Shakespeare, Schiller, Kleist, Strindberg or Feydeau that contemporary authors such as Enzensberger, Müller or Jahnn.
For several seasons, it has maintained a close cooperation with the Staatstheater Stuttgart: Oedipus Oedipus in Colone ? --> of Sophocle, Purified of Sarah Kane, Herzog Theodor von Gothland of Grabbe, Hamlet of Shakespeare, in coproduction with the Festival of Salzburg where it occupies the position of director as well for the theater spoken as for the opera ( King Arthur about Purcell, Fidelio of Beethoven, Al gran plate carico of amore of Nono, Giulio Cesare of Haendel, Otello , Die Gezeichneten of Schreker). In the lyric universe, he is also the guest of the Opéra of Zurich ( Salome and Elektra of Strauss, the Magic Flute of Mozart), of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden of Berlin ( Carmen of Bizet), of the Festival of Salzburg ( Don Giovanni and the Clemence of Titus of Mozart with Nikolaus Harnoncourt with the desk) and of the Opera of Amsterdam ( Lady Macbeth de Mtsensk of Chostakovitch).
Its last (or future) settings in scene are: Die Gezeichneten of Schreker to the Opera of Amsterdam and Woyzeck of Büchner in Residenztheater of Munich in 2007, Macbeth of Made green to the Staatsoper of Munich and The Rake' S Progress of Stravinsky to the Theater year der Wien of Vienna in 2008; Lady Macbeth de Mzensk of Chostakovitch to the national Opera of Paris, Brace and Aron of Schoenberg to the Scala of Milan and Tosca of Puccini to the Opera of Zurich in 2009.
